I recommend the media software "Audacious".
"Audacious" is the branch of the BMP(Beep media player).
And it keeps the "winmap" traditional interface.
So I choose it to play the mp3 or wma ....
If your OS is gentoo.
Just to add these USE flag.
mad -->Adds support for mad (high-quality mp3 decoder library and cli frontend)
wma -->Build with WMA (Windows Media Audio) support
chardet --> Try to handle non-UTF8 chinese/japanese/korean ID3 tags
then
emerge audacious-1.2.2
you will get the Audacious it support the mp3 & wma note:here we just talk about the version is audacous-1.2.2. If you use the version andacious-1.3.2,I still have some problem to make it play mp3 format file.
